Food Security in Insecure Times – our latest podcast

Nov 27, 2025

The latest People Powering Change podcast features the work of Snohomish County’s two largest food banks. Host Gary Davis visits the Lynnwood Food Bank and the Edmonds Food Bank, speaks with their directors, and a dedicated food bank volunteer.

The interviews highlight the dire circumstances and resilient triumphs that happen on a daily basis, as more of our neighbors in Snohomish and King counties seek food assistance. In fact, 310,000 residents of the two county area receive some food assistance through the federal nutrition programs SNAP and WIC, according to the Washington State Department of Health. With more federal cuts coming to the SNAP program in 2026, at the same time health care premiums are jumping sharply, demand for resources, volunteers and many types of community help are happening now.

On this episode, you’ll also meet the newest member of the Companis staff, Meli Cervantes, our Program Assistant in Snohomish County. And, you’ll hear about Companis’ most recent volunteer opportunities and partner agency requests from Jillian Harmon, our Associate E.D.

Thank you to Alissa Jones at the Lynnwood Food Bank, and Casey Davis at the Edmonds Food Bank, as well as the members of the Snohomish County Food Coalition, for welcoming us to their sites. A special thanks to podcast feature editor Erin Hennessey for volunteering her skills with Companis!

You’ll find People Powering Change on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and most places you listen.
