Marketing & Communication Volunteer Spotlights
Irene Chan, Project Coordinator, Girls on the Run of Snohomish County
Irene is a young professional who approached Companis with a desire to leverage her background in project management, digital marketing and community engagement to support nonprofits in achieving their goals. She was matched as a Project Coordinator at Girls on the Run (GOTR) of Snohomish County, a youth empowerment nonprofit who approached us seeking a volunteer to assist with operations & logistics support. In her role, Irene gave 8 hours per week assisting with office operations, marketing outreach, and program coordination. Following her placement with GOTR, Irene continued her service through Companis by serving as a Brand & Marketing Advisor volunteer with The ACCESS Project, a youth engagement nonprofit serving south Snohomish County.
Eileen Otti, Newsletter Writer, PFLAG Seattle
Eileen is a retired attorney who approached Companis with an interest in volunteering with a nonprofit in either the arts & culture space, or a nonprofit serving the LGBTQ+ community. Companis matched Eileen with PFLAG Seattle as a Newsletter Writer, where she had the opportunity to refresh & improve their newsletter format, as well as create and send their monthly newsletters. Their staff reported, “Eileen has been a godsend. She does a terrific job every month writing our e-newsletter. She asks thoughtful questions and is always on time for meetings and submitting her final drafts. She has also started to volunteer when we have tabling events. I hope she never wants to leave! Our newsletter is sent to approximately 1,100 people every month. People have told me they’ve noticed a change in the content and how much they’ve enjoyed it. For example, we’ve started a feature that shines a spotlight on one of our volunteers. That’s all because of Eileen.” You can read more about Eileen’s volunteer experience on our blog here.

Golden Davenport, Graphic Design Volunteer, Sports in Schools
Golden Davenport is a graphic designer who approached Companis looking for ways to support local nonprofits with their graphic design needs. Companis placed Golden with Sports in Schools, a nonprofit that expands access to sports for youth across Washington state. She commented on the placement processing, stating “Companis connected me with an organization I never knew existed, but that I’m really impressed and excited by…I wouldn’t have discovered it on my own.” In a critical moment of growth for the nonprofit, Golden helped develop visual collateral for their annual fundraising gala, including event save-the-date cards and invitations, a corporate sponsorship packet, and their annual report.
